The Wellness Community of East Tennessee (TWC), located in Knoxville, would like to welcome you to our website.
We provide a full range of support services for people in East Tennessee with cancer and for their loved ones in a comfortable home-like setting, completely free of charge. We offer drop-in and on-going support groups, networking groups for specific types of cancer, educational workshops, stress management sessions, lectures by experts in the field of oncology, and social gatherings - all with laughter, joy and hope.

Tuesday, September 14, noon-1:30 pm. Beth Booker, MS, MPH, RD. Organic, free-range, natural and locally grown are all in the news. Learn what these terms mean to you and your diet. Take home information on what foods are best purchased organically and what is available to us locally. Get new recipes for what's available now in East Tennessee. A light lunch will be donated by Earth Fare. Sponsored by the Kroger Foundation and the Sunrise Foundation. RSVP to 546-4661.
>>Healing through Art: Ceramic Plate Glazing
Friday, September 17,10:30am-12:30pm. Cheri Pollack, Mixed Media and Ceramic Artist. Spend the morning glazing your very own ceramic plate. You can let your imagination run wild as you customize your functional ceramic masterpiece. No experience is necessary, just a willingess to enjoy a few hours of creative discovery. Once you have applied glaze to these ceramic plates, Cheri will fire them in her kiln and return them to The Wellness Community. These plates can be used at your dinner table or they can be displayed in your home. All materials provided and no experience necessary. Space is limited. >>Living with Cancer as a Chronic Illness
Wednesday, September 22, 12:30-2:30pm. Larry C. Kilgore, M.D., Professor, University Gynecologic Oncology, UT Medical Center Cancer Institute. This program will focus on the needs of people diagnosed with metastatic cancers, with emphasis on women diagnosed with gynecological cancers. Dr. Kilgore will provide updates on the latest treatments for gynecologic cancers including discussion of clinical trials. He also will discuss some of the long term issues of living with any cancer as a chronic illness and discuss ways of coping with the social and emotional challenges associated with a metastatic diagnosis. He will share some ways of maximizing quality of life including ways to utilize the healing power of music. Come and listen to the important information that Dr. Kilgore will discuss and then relax, get comfortable and listen to him play his guitar. There will be ample time for discussion. >>Mindfulness in Everyday Life: Changes and Transitions
Saturday, September 25, 10:00am-noon. Ann Pendley, Meditation Instructor. Changes and transitions are an inevitable part of life and September is a month of change, a beginning of a new season and, for some, the start of a new school year. In this session we will focus on awareness and greater acceptance of change in our lives This class is suitable for beginners as well as those familiar with mindfulness meditation practice. Monday, September 27, noon-1:30pm. Missy Kennedy, Cooking Instructor. It's football time in Tennessee!! It's time to dust off your coolers, blankets and football gear and get yourselves ready for good ole tailgating and southern football. Come join Missy as she demonstrates different and healthy ways to spice up your tailgating experience. If tailgating is not your thing, come anyway and laern how to make quick nutritious snacks. Wednesday, September 29, 6:00-8:00pm. Kathleen Mavournin, Professional Storyteller. Come one, come all to an evening of storytelling! Let Kathleen take you on a journey of pumpkins, adventure and even ghosts. Your 1st journey will start at 6:00 with stories that are perfect for adults and children of all agens, especially those under the age of 8. After a short break, your 2nd journey will begin at 7:00. This journey is just right for older children and adults. Be warned that these stories may make you feel like kids again. Family and friends are always welcome. RSVP to 546-4661.
