Q: Who belongs to The Wellness Community?
A: Anyone with cancer who desires to improve the quality of his or her life and enhance the possibility of recovery belongs to TWC. Family and friends are always welcome to participate.
Q: What does it cost to participate?
A: Nothing. There is no charge for any services provided. All services are made possible by tax-deductible contributions from individuals, corporations, grants, and through support from Baptist Health System, Covenant Health System, St. Mary's Health System, and the University Health System, Inc. The Wellness Community is a 501(c)(3), nonprofit organization.
Q: What do participants do at The Wellness Community?
A: Individuals with cancer and their families can choose to participate in a variety of learning opportunities that can improve the quality of their lives, reduce stress, and may enhance the possibility of recovery. Activities include: support groups, educational workshops, stress management sessions and social events.
Q: Are medical services or advice available at The Wellness Community?
A: The Wellness Community does not have a medical staff. Individuals seek their own treatment as they deem necessary. The program is meant to support the treatment prescribed by a patient's healthcare team and is not a substitute for conventional medical care.
Q: What geographic location do we serve?
A: Cancer patients and loved ones involved with The Wellness Community visit us from all areas of East Tennessee. With help from their oncologists, many participants from outlying areas schedule treatment days to coincide with their group times, ensuring that they are able to participate in a weekly support group.
