The Wellness Community (TWC) of East Tennessee is located in Knoxville, Tennessee and is part of a national non-profit organization. We are devoted to helping cancer patients and their loved ones enhance their health and well being by providing professionally led programs of emotional support, education, and hope. We provide a full range of support services to cancer patients and their families in a comfortable home-like setting and all are completely free of charge.

At The Wellness Community, people with cancer learn that they are not alone. With the diagnosis of cancer often come feelings of fear, depression and isolation. Each day at The Wellness Community, people with cancer and their loved ones can be with others who share similar concerns and feelings, thereby reducing their isolation, while retaining and maintaining as much control as possible. Participants learn how to become "Patient Active" and to get involved in their treatment. Our goal is to help as many people as we can recover to the fullest extent possible.

If you or a loved one has cancer, you don't have to feel alone.
There is a whole community behind you.

Our History

On January 2, 1990, The Wellness Community of East Tennessee opened its doors to the public thanks to the Young family; Rachael Young, her husband Robert and his brother Lindsay Young. Rachael, a cancer survivor herself, was determined to bring The Wellness Community to Knoxville after hearing the founder, Harold Benjamin, Ph.D. speak at a Cancer Workshop in Santa Monica. Rachael believed that Knoxville could benefit from having a comprehensive program of support and education for people with cancer and their loved ones offered at no charge.

Many years later, The Wellness Community of East Tennessee continues to offer education and support programs to people with cancer and their loved ones and the Young's remain active members of the organization. There have been many advances made in the treatment of cancer over the past years and the value of a supportive cancer community has remained consistent.

Our Mission

To help people affected by cancer enhance their health and well-being through participation in a professional program of emotional support, education, and hope.
